About 6 years ago, I discovered this site. It was just the thing to get me through my monotonous days as a receptionist for a company that sold semi conductors to businesses (seriously, that sucked.) And now, 6 years later, I’m pleased to find that the content on that site is just as good as always.
It’s called The Editing Room, and it’s an outlet for writers Rob and Alex–a place where they can express their disdain for popular films. The site was launched in 1998 by Rob, in response to the Godzilla remake that came out around that time (and really, who doesn’t remember how horrible that was? Even worse was the soundtrack. Remember that whole Puff Daddy/Jimmy Paige thing?). Basically, in response to movies that make them angry, they make short, snarky abridged scripts. But don’t worry; even if you liked a movie or haven’t seen it yet, the scripts do little to ruin that for you. They don’t typically contain spoilers, and they are funny. They’ve been featured on cracked.com, and in Total Film magazine. They’ve also received a bunch of web awards and a shout out in Forbes magazine. Their reasoning for why they do this is simple; All movies suck. And you know what? I agree.
While I might not have a lot of free time at work anymore, I still make it a point to visit the editing room a few times a month. If you’ve got some free time on your hands, I highly recommend it.
Unless you can’t handle snark. Then, you know, look at youtube videos of kittens or something.
