One of the more intriguing summer movie releases is James Wan’s The Conjuring. Starring Patrick Wilson (Insidious, Watchmen, Hard Candy) and Vera Farmiga (Orphan,Source Code) as the real life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren it is a haunted house story set in the 70’s. Where things get interesting are that The Conjuring is coming out in July because it’s crazy-high test screening ratings that were not just considered high for a horror movie but high for ANY movie. This compelled New Line to forgo just dumping this movie in the January-March block of crap movie hell like so many of it’s peers but instead propelled it into the heart of the summer movie season. This is not a movie being dumped, this release date is a vote of confidence in what James Wan has created. To add to the hype, the first The Conjuring trailer is now online and it’s has every bit of the subtle, menacing and downright creepy atmosphere we could hope for. Check it out after the break!
The Warrens were a prominent husband/wife supernatural investigation team that are well known to fans of the paranormal. Ed was a World War 2 veteran and noted Demonologist while Lorraine was a clairvoyant and medium. They were noted investigators in the true life Amityville haunting case and also claimed to have exorcised people suffering from demonic possession. Their organization the New England Society for Psychic Research which they founded in 1952 still exists today.
