Stewart Thorndike is an exciting upcoming lesbian filmmaker who wants to make horror with a particular focus on strong female characters. After making her first film LYLE available for free during her Kickstarter campaign for her second film PUTNEY many people got to see one of the best indie horror films of the year. Lyle is a tightly-wound, intimate horror about a grieving mother attempting to deal with the loss of her child and the unusual behavior of her partner and the other people who live in the building they recently moved into. With strong shades of Rosemary’s Baby and a tremendous performance by Gaby Hoffman Lyle is a marvelous little mind-bender that’s worth keeping an eye out for! Martin talks with Stewart Thorndike about that film, her influences, and the pros and cons of “begging for money” online and what we can expect from Putney. Thanks for listening!
