A blending of The Phantom of the Opera, Faust and the 70’s; Phantom of the Paradise is a wonderful cult classic horror musical. Directed by the great Brian De Palma it failed at the box office but found a following as a brilliant colorful, wildly entertaining spectacle which is imbued with genuine heart. Paul Williams is one of the stars as the sinister Swan, a music mogul who will exploit whoever he has to in order to get what he wants. He also wrote a lot of the music and it’s pretty great. William Finley is amazing, Jessica Harper is adorable, and Gerrit Graham has the best facial expressions ever. It even has a Giallo-esque feel that just adds to it’s quintessentially 70’s style.

Next time it’s HEAD, yeah the weird one with The Monkees!
